DAVID KARSENTY

David Carsenty, born in 1972, originally from Normandy, specifically fromLe Havre, is a self-taught artist who entered the world of art after studying psychology. Fascinated by street art and graffiti and starting from the path already traced bypop art(among the artists who influenced him most are Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring), he works around the concept oficon, revisiting the most emblematic cult characters from the world of comics and cartoons in his very personal irreverent style, pervading them with a large quantity of symbols.

He himself states: «I elaborate the icons of painting, music, video games, from the 50s to the present day: everything that touched our childhood and that still affects our collective unconscious». In his paintings, the iconic phrase“SO CULT”it is present recurrently and indicates a cultural product that has acquired a symbolic value due to its exemplary nature.

If the supports he uses vary between canvas, paper and cardboard, his graphic production develops around the repetition of the main subjects on alternating backgrounds, taking up the concept ofserialityby Andy Warhol. For Karsenty, moreover, color has extreme importance: «The colored side is a choice, it is my way of seeing life; for me,color is LIFE!».

After having exhibited in numerous art galleries in France and in various countries of central and northern Europe, he arrives in Italy, and in particular in Padua, where in 2019 he exhibits at theSamonà Gallerywith a personal exhibition of unpublished works.

Nato nel 1972 a Le Havre, in Normandia, David Karsenty è un artista autodidatta che, dopo studi in psicologia, ha trovato nella Pop Art e nella street art il suo linguaggio artistico. Ispirato da Warhol, Basquiat e Haring, Karsenty lavora attorno al concetto di icona, reinterpretando personaggi cult del fumetto e del cartoon.
