On 23 April 70 years ago, the completed industrial project of a vehicle destined to become a legend was deposited at the Patent Office in Florence: the Vespa. It was 1946 and the reconstruction would have given Italians many opportunities and new things to discover. Like the revolution in mobility that the Vespa allowed.
In the first year of production - 1946 in fact - 2,484 Vespas were built. There were two versions: normal and luxury, which cost respectively 55,000 and 61,000 lire. A year later Piaggio sold 10,535 Vespas and in 1948 it reached 20,000, up to 175,000 in 1951. But in the meantime the Vespa became an international phenomenon and Piaggio also began producing it in Germany.

In the 1950s, love for the Vespa found a lasting cement: the cinema. The coup de foudre with the seventh art gave it "Roman Holiday", with the wonderful couple Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, and then continued in many other films. The episode dedicated to her in Nanni Moretti's "Dear Diary" is beautiful. throughout the national territory.
