Francesco Musante was born in Genoa in 1950, he graduated first from the Liceo Artistico of that city, then from the Albertina detached section of Fine Arts in Turin; in the seventies he enrolled in the Faculty of Philosophy in Genoa and attended painting courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa. He began as an abstractionist influenced by Rauschenberg and Pop Art with large fields of color and insertions of writing, objects and wood. From 1971 he decides to be a full-time artist, gradually becoming a painter, sculptor, engraver (from 1983 he appears in the catalogs of the "Original Italian and foreign engravings of the 19th century and modern ones"). From 1975 there is a decisive change of course towards the figurative initially creating a series of female figures inspired by Klimt and the Viennese Secession then, starting from 1985, he began to create his characteristic "little men" inserted in contexts full of objects, characters, words and poetic phrases.
